What is Kyiv? An ancient capital dating back to the span of time before recorded history? A rediscovered cultural mecca of Europe with unmatched architectural complexes of the XI century? A multifaceted megapolis at the crossroads of nations and traditions, which pulse never stops even at night?

Better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times. Better to find the answer yourself than to read about it). However, the undeniable fact about Kyiv is that it managed to take the best of both worlds transforming into a modern European city and retaining this special Zeigeist of the Kyivan Rus and the romanticism of XVIII century.

All optional activities need to be booked in advance.

DAY 1 – KYIV

Arrival in Kyiv.
Bus transfer to the hotel. Checking into twin rooms.
21:00 Welcome dinner at the restaurant (main course, water, a tankard of beer or a glass of wine).

DAY 2 – KYIV: On legends and music

07:00-09:30 Breakfast at the hotel.
09:30-13:00 Guided city tour. Starts from the hotel.
The tour covers all major sights of Kyiv launching from the Golden Gate, which used to be the main entrance to the ancient city. Take a break to admire the beauty of St. Volodymir’s cathedral going back to the XIX century and still functioning these days. Embrace the spirit of St. Sophia’s Cathedral – the oldest East Slavic church displaying original examples of frescos and mosaics, the scale model of Kyiv and contemporary mosaic of the Mother of God, made out of 12 000 Easter eggs. Continue your journey along the oldest street in Kyiv. Savour the views of the mighty Dnipro river and the Lower City staying under the People’s Friendship Arch rising on the hill.
13:00-14:00 Lunch at a restaurant with the atmosphere of the 19th century (salad, soup, main course, non-alcoholic national beverage, tea/coffee).
14:00-17:00 Visiting Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, The Museum of Miniatures and The Open Air Museum of The Second World War.
The oldest and the most famous East Slavic monastery going back to 1051 has been an important destination of pilgrimage. The tour will take you to the museum of the Upper Monastery, to the Cave Monastery still functioning nowadays and to the unique Museum of miniatures, where you can observe the world’s tiniest handcrafted things. We will finally come down to the caves dug by monks, where the sacred relics have been preserved. Weather permitting we will march through the park towards the grandious Soviet Military History museum with the statue of an armed woman towering 100 metres above the main construction.
17:00-18:00 Dinner at the restaurant.
19:00 Opera or ballet at Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National Theatre 45 €.

DAY 3 – KYIV: The revolution heritage

07:00-09:00 Breakfast at the hotel.
9:00-10:00 We travel out of the city to the residence of the former president, who fled during the revolution in 2013-2014. It used to be the most secret place hidden behind the 5-metre walls heavily guarded by armed men with dogs. Nowadays it’s the Museum of Corruption. There was even a personal air defense system. Explore 137 hectares of parks and lakes on an electric car. There is everything you can imagine – the ship-restaurant, the heliport, the zoo, the collection of retro cars, golf court, fountains and SPAs – it was still not enough.
10:00-14:00 The true gem of the residence is the masterpiece of Finnish design – Honka. It is a modern 600 square meter palace made of unique kelo wood. Walk the underground tunnel guarded by a stuffed lion and the knights, admire royal parquet flooring and wood engravings, hear the stories about the golden loaf and other stupid whims of the dictator. Our guide is a former demonstrator, who was among the first to enter the mansion and has been living there ever since. He committed himself to maintain and protect the house.
14:00-16:00 Returning to Kyiv. Lunch at the restaurant.
16:00-18:00 Guided walking tour starting at Maydan – Kyiv main square and the revolution centre. Our guide, who was the eyewitness of the historic moment, will share his memories of those shocking events. We stroll to the mysterious Chimaera House and the monumental presidential palace along the street, where in 2014 the demonstrators equipped only with wooden shields marched against the police’s bullets.
18:00-20:00 Free time.
20:00 Dinner at the restaurant.

DAY 4 – KYIV: Going nuclear

6:00-6:30 Breakfast.
07:30-10:30 During the bus ride to Chernobyl, we will watch videos about the worst nuclear disaster in the world and find out the causes of the explosion.
10:30-14:00 We'll drop by an abandoned village. We will make a ride around the nuclear power station and see the new sarcophagus. We'll havea tour around Pripyat.
Get ready for an unforgettable experience – a trip to the ghost town. Before evacuation, there were 49 400 people living in Pripyat - a small town near Chernobyl. The majority were Chernobyl nuclear power station workers and their families. When the catastrophe struck, the whole town and the nearby territories within a 30-km radius were abandoned for good. Empty blocks of flats and the silent park are all the witnesses of the peaceful atom's hidden danger.
14:30-15:30 Lunch at the cafeteria (salad, soup, main course, water, tea/coffee, dessert).
16:00-17:30 We'll have a visit to the town of Chernobyl, which is half empty and half inhabited. Finally, meet the secret destination  huge radar DUGA-1, which was constructed to detect launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
20:30 Farewell dinner (salad, main course, dessert, water, non-alcoholic traditional beverage, tea/coffee, two glasses of wine).

DAY 5 – A warm parting

07:00-10:00 Breakfast. Free time.
Bus transfer to the airport.
Flight to Helsinki.
